A live visual designer for bespoke wooden items
HJS Catchall Tray Designer lets your customer set the size and shape, drag pockets onto a real-time preview, add multi-line engraving and artwork or their own image, and add the finished design to the basket - priced correctly, through OpenCart's own option pricing. You download a millimetre-accurate production SVG for the job.
Key features
- Live SVG preview - the customer sees the actual item redraw as they change it, not a form.
- Drag-placed, resizable pockets in five shapes: rectangle, rounded, circle, oval and long slot.
- Five starter layouts, one click each, then change anything - and you can give each one its own name and photograph.
- Multi-line engraving in 17 fonts, dragged into position on the item.
- Built-in artwork, placed, resized and rotated - and an artwork system that is just a folder: drop your own SVG files in and they appear in the picker with no code change.
- Customer image upload, resized in the browser and re-encoded by the server before it is stored.
- Production-ready SVG export, in millimetres, grouped by job (outline, each pocket, artwork, engraving) so a CNC or laser operator can set a tool and a depth per group.
- A download button beside every design on the Order Info screen, and a Designs screen listing every design ever submitted.
- Optional "Got a CNC? Download SVG" button for customers who cut their own - on by default, one switch to turn off.
- Prices set by you: pockets included, each extra pocket, engraving, artwork, both together, the image upload, and now a price per timber (oak can cost more than pine), all charged through OpenCart's own option pricing.
- Pockets have a real minimum size in millimetres that you set - the customer's sliders cannot go below it at any item size, recalculated live as they resize, and enforced again server-side so nobody can get round it with a stale page.
- Works on any product you choose, not one hard-coded item, and the word for the item is yours to set - tray, board, sign, coaster, organiser.
- The designer works on a phone: one column, finger-sized controls, the same drag-to-place pockets and running price.
Two optional extras, both off until you turn them on
- Sell the design as a digital file. An optional "Buy this design as a file" button takes the customer straight to PayPal for that one fee - no basket, no checkout wizard, no delivery address, no account to create. The file downloads the moment PayPal confirms the payment and is e-mailed to them as well. The payment is verified properly: the file is released only when PayPal itself reports a COMPLETED transaction with a real transaction id, read server-side.
- An AI picture of the finished item. One button generates a photorealistic image of the customer's own design - their timber, their stain, their pockets, their engraving, their artwork - by sending your server's own to-scale plan of the real item as a reference image, not just describing it in words. Uses your own OpenAI API key, held on your own server; this is a one-off extension purchase, not a subscription.
The pricing is the point
A visual configurator is only worth having if the customer is actually charged what they were shown. This one adds the design to the basket through OpenCart's own product-option pricing, so the basket line, the order, the totals, the tax and the invoice are all correct with no changes to any OpenCart file. The base price stays the product's own price - a special price is honoured automatically - and the extras are added on top as a real, priced option.
What it does not do
- It does not change your checkout, add a payment method or split a payment. The optional file sale is a standalone PayPal page of its own; your normal checkout is untouched.
- It does not manufacture anything: it produces the cut file, you cut it.
- The built-in artwork is seven original geometric shapes. It is a framework, not an art pack - your own SVG files drop straight in.
- It does not give you an AI key or bill you for AI usage. The preview is optional, and if you want it you supply your own OpenAI key and are billed by OpenAI directly.
- PayPal is the only payment method for the file sale in this version.
- English only in this version.
Compatibility
- Tested: OpenCart 4.1.0.4. PHP tested: 8.4.
- Requires PHP's GD extension for the customer image upload (standard on almost every host); the rest of the product works without it.
- Default theme.
- The designer itself needs no external service, no account and no API key. The two optional extras do, and only if you switch them on: selling the design as a file needs OpenCart's free official PayPal Checkout Integration extension; the AI preview needs your own OpenAI API key, billed to your own account.
