Privacy Policy: Mileage Tracker UK

Mileage Tracker UK ("the app") is developed by HJS Apps ("we", "us"). This policy explains what data the app handles and why.

The short version

Mileage Tracker UK does not have user accounts, does not have a server or backend, and does not send your data anywhere. Everything the app records (your trips, vehicles and settings) stays on your phone. The only outside service the app talks to is Google Play Billing, to process the one optional in-app purchase, and that transaction is handled entirely by Google, not by us.

What the app collects

Location. While you have a shift running (Start shift / End shift), the app uses your phone's GPS to record your route and calculate the distance travelled for that trip. This location data is used only to work out your trip's mileage; it is stored locally on your phone as part of that trip's record and is never transmitted to us, to any third party, or to any server. The app does not request or use "background" location access: it only uses your location while a shift is actively running and the app (or its ongoing-shift notification) is visible to you.

Nothing else. The app does not collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos, camera or microphone data, or any other personal information. There is no account or sign-up of any kind.

What the app does not do

No analytics, crash-reporting or advertising software of any kind is included in the app.
No data is uploaded to, or downloaded from, any server the app or HJS Apps operates, because there isn't one.
No data is shared with, or sold to, any third party.
No ads are shown, and no advertising identifier is used.

In-app purchase

The app offers one optional one-time purchase (a one-off unlock for exports and tracking more than one vehicle), processed entirely through Google Play Billing. We never see or store your payment details: Google handles the transaction under its own privacy and payment terms, and the app only stores a local "unlocked" flag once your purchase completes.

Backup and restore

The app lets you export a backup of your trips, vehicles and settings to a file, and restore from one later. That file is created and stored wherever you choose to save it (your phone's storage, a cloud drive, an email attachment and so on, using your phone's own share and file tools). We never see or receive a copy of it.

Data retention and deletion

All app data lives on your phone only. You can delete individual trips at any time in the app, replace all your data by restoring a different backup file, or remove everything by uninstalling the app. Because there is no account and no server-side copy of your data, there is nothing for us to delete on your behalf: uninstalling the app removes everything.

Children

Mileage Tracker UK is a mileage-logging tool for people who drive for work (the self-employed, gig-economy drivers, and employees claiming a mileage allowance). It is not directed at, marketed to, or designed for children, and we do not knowingly collect data from children.

Not affiliated with HMRC or any government body

Mileage Tracker UK is an independent tool. It is not a government app, and it is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to HMRC or any other government body. It references public HMRC mileage rate information published on GOV.UK; always check the current rates on the official pages (GOV.UK: simplified expenses for vehicles) and use your own judgement, or an accountant's, for your Self Assessment return.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes (for example, if a future version adds a feature that changes what data is collected) we will update this page and the "Last updated" date above.
